Road to Sturgis 2005

Lind Washington - Home of the Annual Combine Destruction Derby

Coeur 'd'Alene, Idaho

Meanwhile in St Paul MN (about this same time...) Nick & Ed are getting ready to roll...we'll meet up in South Dakota.

I don't think he saw that bear climbing the fence behind him :-)

We hooked up with Nick and Ed in Wall, South Dakota

The Badland - South Dakota

Rumor has it that some have gone out and never came back...

Black Hills Harley Davidson - Rapid City, South Dakota

I've known Milo and his Rat Bike since 1978. His bike has changed a lot since then..., before it had ape hangers and
was always clean..., somewhere along the way it got a little ratty and the ape hangers got traded in for steer horns!

Milo has over 500,000 miles his Shovelhead. He...just like most Oregonians, don't do trailers!

This bike looks like it weighs close to the 1/2 ton mark by now :-)

Main Street - Sturgis, South Dakota

Devils Tower Loop - Wyoming

Hulett, Wyoming

Devils Tower, Wyoming

Devils Tower - Remember the mountain in "Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind", this is it!

Look real close...the 1st picture shows 3 rock climbers...the 2nd picture shows one of them later standing at the top!

The rangers up at Devils Tower took great care of everyone by setting up a nice cold shower on this 100+degree day.

Back in Sturgis

Black Hills, South Dakota

Keystone - Black Hills, South Dakota

Mt Rushmore - Black Hills, South Dakota

Mt Rushmore in the background

Ok let me c if I got it...the shifter's on the left and the brake is on the right...??

Crazy Horse Memorial - Custer, South Dakata

The Crazy Horse project started June 3, 1948. It's the world's largest mountain carving!
The face of Crazy Horse was finally completed 50yrs later..in 1998. It stands 9 stories high!
They are now working on the horses head...which when finished it will stand 22 stories high!

Blasting in progress... This picture was taken at the moment when the explosive charge was set off.

We scored a nice little cabin 4 d night in Buffalo, Wyoming. We had great hosts and a free bike wash d next morning!

On the road somewhere between Buffalo, Wyoming and Yellowstone National Park

East Enterence - Yellowstone National Park

West Thumb Geyser Basin - Yellowstone National Park

As the sign says, Continental Divide - Yellowstone National Park (it was really cold up here on this day!)

Elk herds can be spotted at the West Entrance to Yellowstone National Park.
For us, this will be our exit... we'll come back next year when it's warmer!

Craters of the Moon National Monument - Outside of Carey, Idaho

It's more spectacular and detailed then what the photos show.

The trail always ends in Oregon (Oregon Trail that is...:)
